What Our Community is Saying?

I can’t recommend Maddy and Leaps & Bounds enough. From the very beginning, everyone has been welcoming and supportive. My son has thrived with Maddy for over two years, and we happily travel weekly to see her - it’s always worth it.

I’m so grateful for my son’s OT, Rebecca, and the amazing support she provides. She makes my son feel comfortable and safe, and we’ve seen real improvements. Rebecca’s communication, updates, and home strategies have been invaluable - highly recommend Leaps & Bounds.
Lyka
Leaps & Bounds has an incredible team dedicated to helping children thrive. My son’s OT, Maddy, is compassionate and skilled. When he struggled with anxiety, she patiently adjusted sessions until he felt safe. That understanding and care make this place exceptional.

Participant Stories

Christian’s Story

Christian has attended Leaps and Bounds OT as of 2021. When he first started, he had limited verbal communication and engaged best when we followed his lead in play through the DIR approach. Now, Christian is confidently engaging in back-and-forth communication, joining play with peers in group based therapy. He joined our Super Social program back in 2023 and has been successful in his transition into school. He has also made wonderful progress with his fine motor skills, and now enjoys drawing characters and completing school-based activities.

Hovan’s Story

When Hovan first began therapy at Leaps and Bounds OT, his strong need for movement and sensory input made it challenging for him to focus. He often lost interest quickly, especially during writing tasks, and had difficulties expressing his needs, sometimes shouting or relying on significant prompting and modelling to communicate appropriately. Through engaging, play and movement based sessions and consistent occupational therapy, Hovan has made remarkable progress. He can now stay focused and complete age-appropriate tasks with greater independence. He’s able to participate in seated, structured activities for longer periods, engage in less preferred tasks with prompting, and initiate requests with minimal assistance. Hovan also shows greater shared attention and turn-taking, reflecting his growing ability to connect and engage during therapy.

Aurelia’s Story

Before Aurelia started at Leaps and Bounds, she used to struggle with simple grooming tasks like brushing her teeth and washing her hair. These daily routines were often stressful and difficult for her. But thanks to the wonderful support and guidance from her OT at Leaps and Bounds, Aurelia can now do these tasks happily and with confidence. We’re so proud of how far she’s come - and so grateful for the caring environment that helped her get here! Thank you a million

Brendan’s Story

Brendan has been part of Leaps and Bounds OT’s adolescent social group, Leap Ahead, for the past three years, and we’ve seen such amazing growth in his confidence and social skills during that time. One of his biggest achievements has been how well he’s done in his work experience placements. With his growing confidence and communication skills, Brendan has successfully completed placements at Big W, Joe's Fruit World, Officeworks, St Vincent de Paul, and local cafés. Each experience has helped him practise teamwork, follow routines, and build real-world independence!

Khalil’s Story

Leaps and Bounds assisted Khalil to get his wheelchair. His OT worked closely with his family, allied health and medical team to assess, trial, and prescribe the right wheelchair to support his daily life. From funding applications to equipment trials, the process was carefully guided to ensure the best fit for Khalil’s goals and lifestyle. Once his wheelchair arrived, sessions focused on helping Khalil build the skills and confidence to use it independently, navigating his home, school, and community. Since receiving the wheelchair, Khalil’s family has been able to support his mobility more easily, allowing him to participate more fully in home, school, and community life.

Occupational Therapy FAQs

At Leaps and Bounds OT our Paediatric Occupational Therapists (OTs) help your child participate in everyday things that matter most at home, at school, and in the community, despite any physical, cognitive, sensory, emotional or developmental challenges.

That might mean learning to get dressed, playing with friends, using a pencil, managing emotions, or staying focused in class.
Our role is to support your child’s development, confidence, and independence through fun, engaging, evidence-based activities. While also providing practical strategies that fit your family’s routines.

Every child is unique, so we start by getting to know your child, their strengths, areas of development, and the things that are most important to your family. From there, we set meaningful goals together and work toward them step by step.

Some of the areas we often support include:

Fine motor skills: handwriting, cutting, using buttons or utensils

Gross motor skills: balance, coordination, strength, and body awareness

Self-care skills: dressing, feeding, toileting, grooming, and sleep routines

Sensory processing and regulation: helping children manage how they respond to sights, sounds, touch, and movement

Emotional regulation and behaviour: managing frustration, following routines, and coping with change

Social and play skills: taking turns, sharing, playing imaginatively, and joining in with others

Attention and thinking skills: focus, planning, and organisation

Therapy is play-based, fun, and meaningful. We use movement and hands-on activities that build real-life skills while keeping your child engaged and motivated.

We also work closely with parents, teachers, caregivers, allied health, and medical teams, sharing strategies and recommendations to support your child’s growth, learning, and development in everyday life.

The NDIS was established to allow children and teenagers with developmental or participation difficulties access to services such as occupational therapy. Children with any developmental difficulty or formal diagnosis are able to apply for NDIS-funded support.

To find out if your child is eligible to receive occupational therapy with Leaps & Bounds OT under the NDIS, please contact 1800 800 110 or visit www.ndis.gov.au.

If you’re unsure whether your child may benefit from OT, start by looking through our age-based checklists.

If your child is finding more than one or two of those skills challenging, an Occupational Therapy assessment may be helpful.

Yes. Alongside one-on-one therapy, we run group programs to build social skills and confidence, and we also provide support directly in schools to help children in their everyday learning environment.

Every child develops at their own pace, so progress looks different for each family. Some children show small improvements early on, while bigger goals take more time.

What matters most is consistency – regular sessions and supportive practice at home help your child build skills steadily and confidently.

The first few sessions focus on helping your child feel safe, comfortable, and understood. We build a strong relationship, learn about their strengths, and identify the areas where they need the most support.

This foundation helps make future sessions more effective and enjoyable.

Ongoing sessions are essential for reinforcing new skills and helping your child apply them in everyday situations.

We also provide simple, practical home strategies so families can support progress between visits. When therapy and home practice work together, children tend to make the most meaningful gains.

We check in regularly, review goals, and adjust the therapy plan as your child grows. These updates help you see their progress, celebrate achievements, and stay involved every step of the way.
